These were installed under our current free smoke alarm detector program.

October is Fire Prevention Month! https://lancastercityfirefoundation.com/october-is-fire-prevention-month/ https://lancastercityfirefoundation.com/october-is-fire-prevention-month/#respond Fri, 01 Oct 2021 18:27:37 +0000 https://lancastercityfirefoundation.com/?p=1491 ...]]> As we head into October, it’s important to make sure you home and family are protected. Fire Prevention Month was created in 1922 by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Today, Fire Prevention Month is used to raise fire safety awareness and educate communities about fire prevention and home safety.

Some important facts to remember:

  • There is a home fire every 87 seconds in the United States
  • Our senses are ‘asleep’ when we sleep. We do not hear, see or smell the threats of fire – that’s where Smoke Detectors literally save the day.
  • Children sleep through ‘beeping’ Smoke Detectors over 93% of the time. (They are twice as likely to wake up to a ‘talking’ Smoke Detector like Resideo’s combination device)
  • Battery powered AND wired smoke detectors that came with your home should be tested monthly AND replaced every 10 years.

Let’s take advantage of Fire Prevention Month and talk with your family about fire safety:

  • Check smoke detectors regularly, replace their batteries often
  • Create an escape plan for your family
  • Install professional grade monitored smoke detectors that are installed properly and supervised 24/7 for the best in safety
  • Test your professionally installed and monitored life safety system today
  • Let’s be safer together.

    Free Smoke Alarms Available to Lancaster City Homeowners https://lancastercityfirefoundation.com/free-smoke-alarms-available-to-lancaster-city-homeowners/ https://lancastercityfirefoundation.com/free-smoke-alarms-available-to-lancaster-city-homeowners/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2020 18:37:50 +0000 http://lcff.flywheelsites.com/?p=1028 ...]]>

The Lancaster City Fire Bureau offers free smoke alarms to city property owners at no charge.

There is no limit to the number of free alarms a property owner may have installed.

The alarms are required in every city bedroom, on every level and outside of sleeping areas under the International Fire Code.

According to the Fire Marshal Division, a typical city home will require between six and nine of the lithium-battery alarms, which cost the Fire Foundation roughly $20.00 per smoke alarm. Smoke alarms with nine-volt batteries are not permitted under the city fire code.

Property owners who rent their city properties may receive an installed alarm for a donation of $30 each made payable to the Lancaster City Fire Foundation.

Anyone wishing to receive one or more alarms can call the Fire Bureau, at 717-291-4869 to schedule installation.

My home previously had three devices, but since members of the fire department were here, I now have 10.

With one phone call, a team will come to your home, and lives could be saved.

Many thanks and much appreciation to our fire department for this program.
